Purpose: Prevents overheating and overpressure in fire pumps (especially diesel-driven) during low/no flow conditions.
Function: Opens to allow a small flow of water when the pump is running against a closed system, preventing heat buildup.
Application: Installed on the pump discharge line, bypassing flow back to the tank or drain when necessary.
Not to be confused with: Fire pressure relief valve, which is for pressure spikes—not continuous cooling circulation.
